My lovely friend

Rachael was funny, and cheeky, smart, and kind, and she was an enormous part of our lives for a number of years after her partner died and before the dementia meant she needed proper care. We came along as neighbours, and became close friends. She completely embraced me and my at the time 5 year old daughter, and was up for pretty much anything we suggested. So for those years, we were in and out of each other's houses, and we did everything together. She loved her cats, a trip out - especially to the seaside, and she also loved a beer, and cooked a mean hotpot. She always wanted to contribute, even in the early days when she was grief-stricken, and later on too when the dementia worsened. She was also always pleased to see me, even when I'd wake her up by banging on her door to check she was still alive because it was midday and she still wasn't up! She was a very good friend and I loved her a lot.
